Marriott Vacation Club International
opened the first phase of the Marriott Frenchman's Cove, its first
timeshare resort on St. Thomas.
The
multimillion-dollar project, which is adjacent to the 504-room
Frenchman's Reef Marriott Beach Resort, sits on 13 waterfront acres
and will eventually include 220 two- and three-story units in seven
buildings for owners and nightly rental guests.
The first phase,
totaling 28 villas, features an infinity pool, an activities
building and a fitness center. A health club, pool bar and grill
will be added this spring.
Later this
summer, the resort will add another 30 two-bedroom villas; the
project is tentatively scheduled to be completed by 2011, although
the timeline depends upon the pace of time share
purchases.
Each villa is
designed to reflect the destination's Danish heritage and colonial
influence.
"The U. S. Virgin
Islands is a popular destination and a perfect complement to our
portfolio of Caribbean destinations," said Stephen Weisz, president
of Marriott Vacation Club International.
The St. Thomas
property joins 44 other MVCI timeshare resorts
worldwide.
