The two-year, $25 million renovation
project at the 479-room Frenchman's Reef and Morning Star Marriott
Beach Resort on St. Thomas is to be completed this summer.
Guest room
amenities include new bedding and mahogany and granite furniture;
new window treatments and bathroom toiletries in both the main
hotel at Frenchman's and the 96-unit Morning Star Resort; and 30"
flat-screen TVs in all rooms at Morning Star Resort.
The 28 suites at
Frenchman's also have been renovated, with $100,000 allocated to
each of the four bi-level Grand Suites.
The lobbies in
both buildings have been enhanced with contemporary Caribbean
furniture and a relaxed check-in at Morning Star. The new pod
seating arrangement in the lobby of Frenchman's is designed to
encourage guests to take advantage of the lobby as a public space,
said the hotel company.
According to
Marriott, the resort now offers more than 60,000 square feet of
meetings and function space.
Windows on the
Harbour, one of Frenchman's five restaurants, has been refitted
with new carpeting and booths as well as a revived dining menu,
including a Fit for You section targeting low-cholesterol,
carb-conscious and low-fat meal options.
Next door, the
13-acre Marriott Vacation Club International opened phase two of
Marriott's Frenchman's Cove, which includes 30 more two-bedroom
villas, a full-service restaurant and permanent locations for the
MarketPlace and a fitness center.
The new villas
bring the total villa count to 58 out of a proposed 220 villas upon
completion.
Villa features
include a fully-equipped kitchen, living and dining areas, a washer
and dryer and multiple TVs and DVD players.
Other facilities
to come include an on-site Dockside Bar & Grill that will be
open to the public by September and will serve island fare at
breakfast and lunch and offer a full dinner service.
Resort features
include three pools and a kids' pool, reminiscent of a town square
fountain; a whirlpool spa; an activity zone and picnic and grill
areas with a kids' playground and an observation tower.
