A new brand called Arlo will open
its first two properties at the New York sites previously earmarked for the
first two hotels under Commune Hotels & Resorts’ Tommie brand.
The 325-room Arlo Hudson
Square will open in September in downtown Manhattan. The 250-room Arlo NoMad
will open the following month on East 31st Street, about three blocks from the
Empire State Building.
The hotels will feature rooms that
are a maximum 165 square feet. Arlo Hudson Square will have a rooftop bar with
views of the Hudson River as well as a game room and a bar that specializes in
serving bourbons.
The developer, London-based
Quadrum Global, terminated its agreement with Commune Hotels in February,
according to Bloomberg News. The two hotels were slated to open last year.
Commune Hotels said it
and the developer mutually agreed to end their agreement. Commune said it is pursuing locations for the Tommie brand in Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami and Austin.
Arlo will compete for New York
visitors other small-room specialists such as The Pod, Yotel and CitizenM.
