Many U.S. hotels have joined the Pokemon Go craze, with 9.2%
of them referencing the wildly popular smartphone game on social media since its
July 6 launch, according to a Ryan Solutions study.
The hotel CRM company scrutinized the activity of 5,000
hotel Twitter accounts, and found that many have touted their properties as places
to find and capture Pokemon. The Four Seasons Austin, the Monte Carlo in Las
Vegas, the Omni Nashville and the Sheraton Waikiki are among them.
Hotels’ mentions on social media of Pokemon Go likely peaked
on July 13 and have been steadily declining since then, Ryan Solutions said.
“Looking at early
numbers for this week don’t indicate any sort of rebound. In other words, it
appears we’ve passed peak Pokemon,” the company said Tuesday. “To see how
quickly the trend came and went is a fascinating visualization of viral topics
and ideas. In the space of just one week we saw both the first mention from a
hotel as well as the busiest day for mentions.”
Pokemon Go, a free game, was downloaded an estimated 20
million times during the first week of its release.
