The Ritz-Carlton Cancun and its two fine-dining restaurants, Fantino and the Club Grill, have separately earned the AAA Five Diamond rating.
AAA rated 32,000 hotels in North America for 2008, and the Ritz-Carlton Cancun is the only one with two Five Diamond restaurants, said Tony Perrone, manager of AAA's Mexico headquarters.
AAA employs 65 full-time inspectors to rate hotels and restaurants in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean. They arrive at properties unannounced and look at service levels, amenities and ambience, awarding from one to five diamonds.
Five Diamond recipients make up 0.27% of rated establishments, said AAA.
