Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will operate the reborn Kona Village when the Hawaii resort opens after a complete renovation.

The Big Island resort is scheduled to open in 2022. The property had closed in 2011 because of tsunami damage.

Real estate investment company Kennedy Wilson is rebuilding Kona Village. The resort will have 150 unique, standalone guest hales reminiscent of the original property's thatched-roof accommodations. Each hale will have a lanai and outdoor shower.

Among the dining venues will be the original resort's Shipwreck Bar and Talk Story Bar. Rosewood will operate a Sense spa.

A cultural center will be dedicated to preserving and highlighting the heritage of the Kona Coast on the west side of the Big Island.
