InterContinental Hotels Group will take over management of
the former Four Seasons Hotel Pudong in Shanghai and reopen it as the Regent
Shanghai Pudong on May 16.
The hotel will be the first Regent to open since IHG
acquired the luxury brand in early 2018.
All existing reservations for the Four Seasons will be
automatically forwarded to and honored by the Regent Shanghai Pudong.
IHG will also take over management of the property’s branded
residences, which are located on floors above the hotel in the high-rise building.
The Regent opening comes as IHG starts to resume normal
operations across parts of China. As of late March, the company reported that
it had around 60 hotels closed throughout the country, down from 178 at the
peak of the Covid-19 pandemic in China.
Meanwhile, IHG said it will move forward with plans to
rebrand the InterContinental Hong Kong into a Regent hotel next year. The
Regent pipeline also includes plans for new openings in Phu Quoc, Vietnam later
this year; Bali, Indonesia, in 2021; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, in 2023; and
Chengdu, China, in 2023.
