Breezes Runaway BayFor the third time in a month, another Breezes resort is in the news.

Breezes Runaway Bay in St. Ann on Jamaica's north coast is being sold to Sagicor, operators of the Jewel Dunn's River Beach Resort & Spa (the former Sandals Dunn's River Villagio).

The 266-room Breezes will be rebranded to The Jewel Runaway Bay Resort, effective June 1, according to a joint statement from John Issa, chairman of SuperClubs, and Richard Byles, president and CEO of Sagicor Life Jamaica, a financial services company based in Kingston.

"SuperClubs and Sagicor are working together to ensure a smooth transition of ownership with no interruption in service. The employees of Breezes all will receive redundancy packages and will be available for re-hire by the new operators," the statement said.

Sagicor plans to renovate and expand the hotel, according to Byles.

The news follows the announcements that Breezes Trelawny Resort & Spa near Falmouth on Jamaica's northwestern coast will close on May 31 due to an impending sale to an overseas hotel operator and that Breezes' management contract with its resort in Curacao will expire on June 30. The Curacao property will then operate as the all-inclusive Princess Beach Resort and Casino, Curacao with no further affiliation with Breezes.

As of June 30, SuperClubs will consist of six Breezes resorts -- one each in Jamaica, the Bahamas and Brazil and three in Cuba; Hedonism II in Negril, Jamaica; Negril Beach Villa in Negril; and ROOMs resorts in Ocho Rios and Negril.
