The Trump International Hotel Washington D.C. had its soft
opening on Monday. The hotel, which was redeveloped out of the Old Post Office Pavilion,
is preparing for its official opening next month.
The $200 million hotel has 263 rooms, including the
6,300-square-foot Trump Townhouse, which the hotel company says is the city’s
largest hotel suite. The hotel also features a nine-story atrium as well as the
13,200-square-foot Presidential Ballroom.
The property will also include the steakhouse BLT Prime by
David Burke, which will be the third BLT Prime outlet after the original New
York restaurant in 2005 and the one that opened in Miami’s Trump National Doral
in 2014. That restaurant is being opened in a space previously earmarked for
celebrity chef Jose Andres, who backed out of the project last year after Donald
Trump made disparaging comments about illegal Mexican immigrants.
Donald Trump tweeted Monday that he “stopped by @TrumpDC to
thank all of the tremendous men & women for their hard work!” There were
about two dozen people protesting in front of the hotel early Monday, according
to the Washington Post.
The hotel’s rooms are
available on its website for stays starting Sept. 15, with rates ranging from
$806 a night for a deluxe room to about $4,800 a night for the Postmaster
Suite.
Trump won the bid from the U.S. General Services
Administration (GSA) to redevelop the site in 2012, beating out Hilton Worldwide
and Hyatt.
