Backroads, a Berkeley, Calif.-based operator specializing in biking and hiking tours, has acquired Boston-based Bike Riders Tours.
Bike Riders operates biking, walking and culinary tours in New England, Canada, Europe, South Africa, Mexico and Argentina. The operator has been in business 18 years.
While the Bike Riders brand will continue in the near term, Bike Riders will ultimately be folded into Backroads, according to Massimo Prioreschi, Backroads' vice president of sales and marketing.
Prioreschi said the Bike Riders product is most similar with Backroads’ Premiere Inns Trips, which feature high-end accommodations.
Backroads was founded in 1979 by President Tom Hale. The company offers biking, hiking, multisport and family trips worldwide.
