G Adventures is shaking off its reputation as an adventurous, immersive tour operator known for community-centered experiences, unveiling mall-centered travel experiences.
Just kidding.
The tour operator promoted its fake Mall Group Adventures as an April Fool's Day gag, even going so far as to create an video revealing the "bold new travel style," promoting it as "like a cruise, without the water."
The prank featured a collection of travel experiences taking places in malls where travelers who crave comfort and convenience can "explore sprawling shopping centers, try on clothing from around the globe and sample international cuisine, all under one roof."
"Have you ever walked through a mall and thought, "I could spend two weeks here?" Now you can. ... Why spend money on travel, when you could spend it at the mall?" said Kyle Jordan, the director of brand and creative for G Adventures.
Frontier pokes fun at United
Other travel companies leaned into the April Fool's shenanigans.
Frontier Airlines jokingly promoted bean bags and bunk bed seating arrangements, poking fun at United Airlines' new economy cabin couch.
"We heard that an airline has a neat new row. But what about an entire relax plane?" Frontier posted on Instagram.
Thompson Hotels teased that it was launching Thompson Central Antarctica, inspired by Thompson Central Park.
"Modeled as a near-exact replica of the luxury hotel, Thompson Central Antarctica swaps breathtaking views of New York's legendary green space with glacier-view suites and the world's first all-penguin concierge," the gag announcement said.
And Swiss International Air Lines shows that passengers can get in a cycle workout at their seat.
