G Adventures has launched three new funds to support its guides and other workers as well as community projects in places that have been impacted by the Covid-19 travel shutdown.
Founder and CEO Bruce Poon Tip has committed to matching the first $50,000 donated to two of the funds: the CEO Wellbeing Fund, which supports the company's "chief experience officers," and the Planeterra Impact Fund, benefitting the company's Planeterra Foundation.
A third fund, the Porters Support Fund, has been established specifically for Inca Trail porters, cooks and horsemen who have been unable to work due to the pandemic.
Poon Tip said creation of the funds "represents our commitment to community tourism by offering the opportunity to make a positive change at a time we can't do that through traveling."
"I've had hundreds, if not thousands, of letters asking me how to help," he said. "This is what makes our community of travelers different. We transcend travel when our collective humanity extends support during difficult times. These funds all have been launched to answer requests to help people in need. It is one of the most heartwarming movements I've witnessed in my 30 years of building G Adventures as a leader in social enterprise and community tourism."
G Adventures said 100% of all donations will go directly to the people impacted.
