Intrepid Travel has launched a new range of more than 80
trips designed for 18- to 29-year-olds with a focus on sustainable travel and
immersive local experiences.
The trips are priced at the same level as Basix, a product
line for travelers on a budget, and will replace Intrepid's Geckos Adventures
brand, which caters to young adults and has been managed by the Intrepid Group
since 2013. Starting Oct. 1, 2018 all Geckos Adventures tours will become
Intrepid Travel's 18 to 29s trips.
The new portfolio has 20% more departures than Geckos and
includes new trips to destinations such as Iceland and Russia for 2019.
"Intrepid has four times the number of 18 to 29s
travelers as Geckos. It's a global brand, whereas Geckos is almost entirely
sold in Australia," stated Intrepid Group CEO James Thornton.
Intrepid saw a 7% increase in its 18- to 29-year-old
travelers last year.
"Sustainable travel doesn't have to be expensive,"
stated Thornton. "This age group will increasingly influence travel
trends. Their buying decisions can help to reduce demand for activities like
visiting orphanages or riding elephants."
Intrepid has partnered with social enterprise organization
Friends International to which it will make a donation for every 18 to 29s trip
booked.
