Big things come in small packages. At least, that’s the case for Tauck, which said that it would have 415 small-group departures on 60 itineraries in 2017, double the capacity for that category since 2011.

Some of those 60 itineraries will be new for next year, including “Essence of Japan,” a 12-night tour that stops in Tokyo, Kyoto and the Japanese Alps; and “Magic of Morocco,” a 9-night journey that visits a Koranic school, the medina of Fez and seaside Rabat.

With an average of 24 travelers per small group, the experience is more intimate than on a regular departure, which typically has 40 guests.

According to Tauck’s website, traveling in a small group allows more access to tour directors and local guides, as well as increased flexibility during the tour.
