ATLANTA -- Vacation Express launched the first of its new fleet of
dedicated charter aircraft to take off from the operator's home
base in Atlanta.
It's the second of six exclusive Vacation Express aircraft that
will be in flight by March 1, 2002. The first of the six B737-300s
took off from Louisville, Ky., Nov. 22. Two more will debut Dec.
20.
The planes are operated by Pace Airlines of Winstom-Salem, N.C.
and carry the Vacation Express logo. They are part of a new
hub-and-spoke system that will be in place by Dec. 21.
The system will use the Sanford International Airport in Orlando
as the hub linking Atlanta; Charlotte, N.C.; Cincinnati;
Louisville, Ky.; Nashville, and Washington.
The company will continue to offer packages from Baltimore,
Indianapolis, Memphis and New Orleans. Most of the destinations
will see an increased frequency of departures to Cancun.
Vacation Express is expanding its service to Aruba; Costa Rica;
Cancun, Mexico, and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It also is
adding Orlando and Jamaica as charter destinations.
The operator is no longer chartering aircraft from several
previously used charter operators, including Allego Airlines,
Casino Express, TransMeridian Airlines and Falcon Air.
