ASTA will soon offer health insurance as a member benefit in
39 states.
The Society said members have frequently requested health
insurance in recent years so individuals and small business owners can get
coverage at group rates.
Insurance through ASTA will be offered by the end of the
year, the Society said. Coverage will be available for individuals and small-business owners as well as their families, including independent contractors
that are ASTA members.
Members will be able to purchase other kinds of insurance,
including disability, life and Medicare supplements.
The 11 states where coverage will not be available are
Alaska, Hawaii, Washington, Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode
Island, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey. Some or all of those states could
be added to the program "if existing legal restrictions affecting those
states are resolved," according to ASTA.
More information, including the cost of the program and how
to enroll, will be made available soon. ASTA encouraged members to sign up for
its Travel Advisor Daily newsletter for updates. With questions, email [email protected].
