Wellness remains a top travel trend amid the pandemic, with a global survey from American Express indicating that 76% of consumers want to spend more on travel to improve their well-being and 68% reporting that they'll likely plan their next vacation around improving mental well-being in particular.

Conducted in mid-September, American Express' Amex Trendex online poll also showed that 60% of respondents are currently dreaming of planning a wellness-focused trip, with 41% expressing interest in booking a hotel with wellness activities and 38% interested in visiting a wellness resort on their next trip.

Additionally, 55% of travelers said they would be willing to pay extra for wellness activities on future vacations. Just over half of those polled reported that they'd be willing to shell out extra for a hotel with an in-room exercise program, for example.

In general, 73% of respondents said they expect to spend more on travel in the next 12 months than they did last year.

The Amex Trendex poll surveyed a total of 2,000 travelers in the U.S. and 1,000 in Japan, Australia, Mexico, the U.K., Canada and India, with an audience defined as those with a household income of at least $70,000 who traveled by air at least once in the past 12 months.
