Set your countdown clocks for 2023. That's the year John Lovell, president of Travel Leaders Group, expects the travel industry to be back to "true, full strength."
"New airplanes are being brought on. Hotels and cruise ships are being built around the world. 2023 can be a stellar year for all of us," Lovell said to media during an online briefing. "We will get back [to 2019 numbers] and push right through them. I'm very encouraged by the future."
The Travel Leaders EDGE conference, held this week in Orlando, drew 1,400 attendees in addition to virtual participants. According to Lovell, you could feel the enthusiasm of travel professionals and suppliers in the room, citing it as an emotional time for many people.
"Shutting down an economy on a worldwide basis was very difficult, but ships are in the water and planes are in the air -- people are traveling again."
While Lovell acknowledged that the Covid-19 pandemic is not over, he believes we are on the other side of it and learning how to adapt. He believes "the best is yet to come."
