More than 200 travel professionals attended the Tyler Robinson Foundation's 11th Annual Rise Up Gala in Las Vegas earlier this month, raising more than $2 million to support families dealing with pediatric cancer.
The foundation was founded by rock band Imagine Dragons, inspired by the story of the late Tyler Robinson, who died in 2017 from a rare form of pediatric cancer. Tyler was the son of Shannon Robinson, owner of Melroy World Travel in Salt Lake City.
"What began as a personal connection to one travel family has grown into an industrywide movement," said Signature Travel Network (Melroy Travel is a Signature member). "For the first time, the gala felt as much a travel event as it was a philanthropic one, with members, partners and even friendly competitors showing up to give back."
This year's gala at the Aria Resort and Casino featured a performance by Imagine Dragons and Leona Lewis. Hosts Joel McHale and Ken Jeong performed Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive."
"It is remarkable to see the travel industry unite around this cause, honoring Tyler's legacy in such a powerful way," said Signature CEO Alex Sharpe, who also co-chairs the Tyler Robinson Foundation's board. "The generosity shown here tonight ensures families can focus on what matters most -- being with their children -- without the burden of financial stress. To witness our industry friends rallying together in this way was one of the most moving experiences of my career."
