While the U.S. is still Virtuoso's top destination for summer travel, U.S. travel is down 12% from last year, signaling more international travel this summer.

Overall, 2023 bookings are 62% higher than last year and 91% higher than 2019 leading into 2020, Virtuoso said.

Bookings with partner hotels are 193% higher than 2019 and 77% higher than 2022, while average daily rates continue to be high, averaging nearly $1,700 per night. That reflects a 69% increase over average ADRs in 2019.

Cruise bookings this year are 55% higher than they were in 2019.

After the U.S., the network's top destinations for summer travel are Italy, France, Spain, Canada, the U.K., Greece, Ireland, Switzerland and Portugal.

Virtuoso said travelers are increasingly straying off the beaten path to different destinations, pointing to bookings for spots like surf town Biarritz, France, and the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland.

The network also speculated summer events like Wimbledon, BBC Proms and Fashion Week are driving travelers to the U.K., its sixth most popular destination this summer.
