Hotwire drops Sabre for Worldspan

SAN FRANCISCO -- Hotwire, the airline-owned -- along with Texas Pacific Group -- discount travel site, dumped Sabre as its GDS provider in favor of Worldspan.

Spencer Rascoff, Hotwire's vice president of corporate development said the new multi-year agreement will save the company "millions of dollars."

Rascoff added that competition with Sabre in the hotel sector (both sell merchant inventory) contributed to Hotwire's decision to end its relationship with Sabre, which had been Hotwire's GDS vendor since the company's launch in 2000.

Worldspan also provides booking services to Expedia, Priceline.com and Orbitz.
