Port St. George, a $500 million luxury, mixed-used, waterfront project planned for Long Island in the Bahamas Out Islands (population approximately 3,100), will incorporate a number of environmental and sustainable components when fully open by 2024.
These include an organic hydroponics farm for fresh fruits and vegetables, a composting center for food waste, a reverse-osmosis desalinization plant to convert seawater into drinkable water and extensive use of solar tiles to reduce electricity use.
The project, slated to open in phases, will feature a five-star hotel and spa (the brand has not been named), residences, a 640-berth marina and yacht club, a beach club, a lighthouse, a swimming complex with an Olympic-sized pool, water and land sports and an 18-hole golf course.
According to project developer Star Resort Group, Port St. George "will create an environment inclusive of the Bahamian people and culture, bring employment opportunities and offer a platform for artists and craftspeople."
