Bud Darr has been named president and CEO of CLIA, effective Feb. 3. Darr has been MSC Group's executive vice president of maritime policy and government affairs since 2017.
He succeeds Kelly Craighead, who is leaving CLIA at the end of the year, as previously announced.
"With the dynamic changes and opportunities ahead, this industry is poised to set new pathways and raise the bar for innovation and sustainability," Darr said in a statement.
Darr previously served as CLIA's senior vice president of technical and regulatory affairs from 2010 to 2017. He also has been deputy chief of maritime and international law for the U.S. Coast Guard, and has served in the U.S. Navy, Merchant Marine and Coast Guard.
Darr has been involved with several maritime organizations, including the International Chamber of Shipping, BIMCO, the UK Chamber of Shipping, the Liberian Shipowners Council, SEA-LNG, the Society for Gas as Marine Fuel, the World Shipping Council, the IMO World Maritime University, the Cruise Safety and Sustainability Forum and the Seamen's Church Institute.
