Virgin Voyages has canceled the New York City unveiling of its first ship, the Scarlet Lady.

Without mentioning the Covid-19 coronavirus, Virgin Voyages sent an email to those registered to attend the showcase that it was postponing the event after “keeping a watchful eye on the news.”

The email said that the 2,770-passenger ship had already made Dover and Liverpool stops over the past two weeks.

The Scarlet Lady was delivered in early February by the Fincantieri shipyard in Genoa, Italy. It is the first of four ships on order for Virgin.

The company said that it has “absolutely no health concerns or issues onboard.”

“The elevated health protocols and processes we put in place when we took delivery of Scarlet Lady have kept our crew and their family and friends well and happy,” the company wrote.

The ship is next scheduled to go to its homeport Miami to start its first voyage.

“At the moment, we have only postponed the showcase tour events in New York,” a spokesperson said in an emailed response. “We’re continuing to closely monitor developments and will update everyone should there need to be any further changes made based on current events.”
