The seaside Belmond Splendido Mare in Portofino, Italy, will reopen in June after an extensive refurbishment.
Located in the heart of Portofino's harbor, the property is being redesigned by Paris-based Festen Architecture and will feature an elegant but casual atmosphere, with natural woods, rope and brass accents along with traditional Ligurian colors of sea green, terracotta and amber.
The decor of the 14 guestrooms is inspired by the interiors of a traditional Italian fishing boat, with nautical details like wood-latticed flooring and braided-rope headboards handcrafted by textile designer Veronique de Soultrait.
Each room and suite will feature local antiques including fruitwood armchairs by Italian architect Paolo Buffa and fabric from Italian producers such as Loro Piana and Rubelli.
Other design elements will include wall lamps made with Murano glass and original art by Italian artists.
Guests staying at the Belmond Splendido Mare will have full access to the amenities at its sister property, the Belmond Hotel Splendido, including a saltwater infinity pool, terraced gardens with sea views and a spa.
