For the first time, there will be an organized New Year's Eve community fireworks show over Hilo Bay on the east side of the Island of Hawaii.
The event is free and open to the public. The pyrotechnic display will start at the stroke of midnight and will run for approximately 15 minutes.
KapohoKine Adventures, a tour company and sponsor of the event, is offering an exclusive viewing package on the water directly below the fireworks. At 10:45 p.m., guests who can choose between single- or double-seated kayaks, double-seated canoes or stand-up paddle boards, will take off from the shore of the bay to capture the entertainment from the water. After a moonlit paddle, the group will raft together to view the fireworks and enjoy an Champagne toast. The New Year's Paddle Out costs $89 per person and is limited to 21 participants.
