The Alaska Railroad will add to its regular winter-season service with two special event trains scheduled for March.
The railroad's annual Ski Train route will travel between Anchorage and the former community of Curry on March 23. Located north of Talkeetna, the backcountry destination is the site of a former ski resort lost to a 1957 fire. The once-a-year trip, a fundraiser for the Nordic Ski Association of Anchorage (NSAA), is open to NSAA-member skiers and snowshoers at all levels.
Rates start at $115 for children ages 11 and under and $140 for adults. Tickets and details are available through the NSAA.
The Alaska Railroad will also operate its annual Easter Train on March 31. Trips begin and end at the downtown Anchorage depot and include an on-board magic show, treats and a visit from the Easter Bunny.
Easter Train departures are scheduled for 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Tickets start at $35 for children ages 2 to 11 and $69 for adults.
