The top-selling female artist in the world is an 89-year-old master whose work seems perfectly calibrated to the cultural moment. On Nov. 17, she's headed to the Strip.
Yayoi Kusama, the Japanese artist known for her polka-dot motifs, gourd sculptures and infinity mirrored rooms, will open a pair of immersive installations at the Bellagio Gallery of Fine Art.
The first is "Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity," one of those mind-bending infinity rooms, which welcome visitors inside a sort of sophisticated funhouse landscape and have drawn hours-long lines and inspired ticket frenzies comparable to those created by the Broadway smash "Hamilton."
Created for her 80th birthday in 2009, "Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity" is a darkened space enclosed in mirrors where warm, shimmering lights flick on, creating a glowing, twinkling universe around visitors for a minute at a time.
The other installation is one of Kusama's classics: "Narcissus Garden." Created in 1966, the piece consists of 750 mirrored globes that reflect and distort the environment around them.
The exhibit will be open at the Bellagio from Nov. 17 through April 28, with tickets $15 for adults and children 12 and under free.
