Dan Krohmer, executive chef and owner of the lauded Asian seafood restaurant Other Mama located two miles west of the Las Vegas Strip, is opening two restaurants in Downtown Las Vegas this year.
Both of the restaurants, Hatsumi and La Monja, will be part of the new Fergusons Downtown development, which is centered around the revitalization of the historical Fergusons Motel and includes shops, restaurants and green space. Hatsumi is slated for a soft opening in mid-May, followed closely by La Monja.
Hatsumi, open for dinner only, will feature robata izakaya dining with a yakitori bar, a sustainably sourced selection of seafood, full bar and extensive sake list. Mexican restaurant La Monja will serve up coastal seafood ceviches, handmade masa and Nixtamal corn tortillas and will offer a full bar with a broad selection of tequila and mezcal. The restaurant's decor draws its inspiration from the dingy Mexican strip club in the Robert Rodriguez/Quentin Tarantino film "From Dusk Till Dawn," a cult favorite.
"The entire Other Mama Hospitality crew and I are excited to expand our cuisine and culture to Fremont East," Krohmer said in a statement. "It's where I choose to live and spend my free time, so I'm honored to have the opportunity to be part of the new energy and development in Downtown Las Vegas."
Krohmer opened Other Mama in Spring Valley in March 2015 and won Eater Las Vegas' Chef of the Year award in 2016.
