The restaurant group that opened the Golden Tiki in 2015 now has its next venture, Evel Pie in Downtown Las Vegas.
High Horse, a hospitality company based in Las Vegas, plans to open the casual pizza joint in the Fremont East District in late October, just in time for Halloween festivities.
The restaurant's name is an homage to the daredevil Evel Knievel, who famously crash-landed during an attempt to jump the fountains at Caesars Palace in 1967, and Knievel's son Kelly is a partner in the business. The restaurant will serve New York-style pizza by the slice and full pies. In addition to traditional pizza and classic toppings, the menu offers a selection of both craft beers and cheaper American standards, such as Hamm's and Schlitz.
The family of High Horse co-founder and creative director Branden Powers owned a chain of pizza shops during the '70s.
"Evel was the founding father and the catalyst of modern-day extreme sports," Powers said in a release. "He inspired a generation of kids to jump over their neighbors using makeshift ramps. His historic jump over the Caesars Palace fountains solidified him as a Vegas icon, and with the 50th anniversary of that jump coming up in 2017, we wanted to make sure Evel has a slice of Vegas history."
The interior is designed to invoke a pizza shop from the late '70s, with some modern features. There are pinball machines, Schwinn Stingray bicycles, Dogtown skateboards, Evel memorabilia and a bronze statue of Evel Knievel himself.
Evel Pie is located at 508 East Fremont Street in Las Vegas.
