The Drive-Thru Safari Park at Wild Florida became one of the first Orlando-area attractions to reopen on May 4.

The design of the park is suited to social distancing: 85 acres of gravel paths and open areas in which animals roam free while visitors drive their cars through the habitat.

More than 100 native and exotic species are on view at the park, including giraffes, zebras, eland antelopes, scimitar oryx and American bison. Admission is $15 for adults, $10 for kids 12 and under. The park is located about 40 miles south of the major theme parks, in Kenansville.

As of May 15, the Florida Aquarium in Tampa will reopen, but crowd sizes will be limited and visits will be by appointment only.

Meanwhile, the Florida Aquarium in Tampa plans to follow suit on May 15. Crowd sizes will be limited, as visits will be by appointment only. Another restriction: no touch tanks for laying hands on hermit crabs, stingrays, small sharks and the like. And guests will be required to maintain distance from each other.

"By implementing added safety measures and capacity limits, the Florida Aquarium is taking a smart and phased approach to reopening responsibly," Tampa mayor Jane Castor said.

ZooTampa has filed a 17-page plan with city and county officials to gain approval for reopening. It hopes to be allowed to operate at 50% capacity starting June 1.
