The historical Bonnet House Museum & Gardens in Fort Lauderdale is gearing up to celebrate its 100th anniversary in April.
The 35-acre estate, built in 1920 as the winter retreat of the moneyed Birch and Bartlett families, blends art, history and ecology in a setting that features English-style gardens planted with native Florida foliage; original furnishings; and photography from the home's lifespan.
The attraction's anniversary will be marked by music, art and history events and workshops throughout 2020. Events include watercolor, calligraphy and drawing workshops; art, music, birding and orchid-care classes. The signature International Orchid & Garden Festival, which falls over the weekend of April 4 and 5, draws orchid enthusiasts from as far away as Thailand and Ecuador. The Centennial Soiree, taking place on April 25, commemorates the estate's dedication with live art, performances, photo opportunities, cocktails and dinner.
