Up and down the Las Vegas Strip this morning, casinos that had been locked down after the shooting began to open their doors, allowing those who had taken refuge inside to return to their hotels or other lodging.
Las Vegas Boulevard remained closed to traffic as authorities investigated the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history, which occurred during the city's Route 91 Harvest Festival Sunday night, leaving at least 58 dead and more than 515 wounded.
Full operations resumed this morning out of McCarran International Airport, where flights had been temporarily halted after the shooting, diverting nearly two dozen planes to other airports.
Las Vegas-based Allegiant Air said today that it would help victims of the mass shooting and their families fly to or from McCarran free of charge. Travelers affected by the incident should email the airline at [email protected]. Allegiant is also waving change fees for those who planned to visit Las Vegas this week and would like to change their trip.
The Las Vegas Convention Center said it would host a family reunification center for people to find loved ones as well as a victims’ services area.
MGM Resorts said on Twitter that it was making crisis counselors available for any visitors or staff who needed them at (702) 836-6655, (877) 967-7711 or (888) 634-7111 and was working to establish counselors onsite at all MGM properties. MGM has canceled all shows at its Las Vegas resorts for Monday.The shooting occurred from Mandalay Bay, an MGM property.
