The latest in technology takes guests to exotic places at Illuminarium Las Vegas, opening April 15 at Area15, the arts and entertainment complex just west of the Las Vegas Strip.

A multisensory experience in a variety of settings await guests in what Illuminarium officials call a "virtual reality without the glasses" cinematic experience.

"Through the combination of state-of-the-art technology, including the world's most advanced laser projection, 3-D beam-formed audio, lidar-based interactivity, in-floor vibrations and scent systems, Illuminarium will transport guests to places they have only dreamed about," said Calum Pearson, executive vice president and general manager of Illuminarium Las Vegas. (Lidar is short for light detection and ranging.)

The new 36,000-square-foot venue on Area15's campus will open with three experiences:

• Wild: A Safari Experience is a tour of South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania to experience the habitat of game animals and silverback mountain gorillas.

• A Journey to the Moon & Beyond propels guests through the solar system with views of a space colony, planets and an asteroid belt close to Saturn's rings.

• O'Keefe: One Hundred Flowers explored the floral paintings of Georgia O'Keeffe.

In addition, Illuminarium After Dark: Nightlife Reimagined is a nightly, adults-only escape with a full bar, specialty cocktails and curated eats in settings that include Tokyo night markets, French floral gardens and a crystal cavern.

Illuminarium Las Vegas will be open at 11 a.m. daily, with last entry at 7 p.m. for daytime admission. Evening programming will begin at 8 p.m. nightly.

Early-bird tickets start at $36 ($40 after April 15) for adults and $32 for youth.
