Las Vegas is the top destination for meetings and conventions on the planet. So said the World Travel Awards, which gave the city top marks for the fourth year running in 2016 in the category of World's Leading Meetings & Conference Destination. The Trade Show News Network has also recognized Las Vegas as the No. 1 trade-show destination in the U.S. for 22 consecutive years.
Those honors come as the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority is moving to expand the city's already robust convention center facilities.
The $1.4 billion Las Vegas Convention Center District (LVCCD) project is expected to add 600,000 square feet of exhibition space, technological amenities and a transportation system that will make attending meetings at the Convention Center a more seamless, convenient experience. The first phase of the project the demolition of the Riviera and its conversion into a parking lot and outdoor exhibition venue has been completed.
In 2015, Las Vegas hosted almost 22,000 meetings and conventions and trade shows. With the LVCCD project underway, the city is poised to be a top conference destination for years to come.
