Minor tourism disruptions reported after November earthquake

|

Tourism businesses reported only minor damage from a magnitude 7.0 earthquake that struck north of Anchorage on Nov. 30.

While many attractions and businesses closed immediately following the quake, most reopened in the subsequent hours or days. The Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport resumed limited operations within hours of the incident, and the Anchorage Museum reopened after a three-day closure. Following inspections and repairs along about 500 miles of tracks, the Alaska Railroad restarted regular passenger service four days after the earthquake.

Most city streets and rural roadways were repaired within a week of the incident, and Visit Anchorage said that while some businesses had broken water pipes or cosmetic damage to address, the city's hotels, restaurants, attractions and tours are again operating as normal.
