Old Harbor Native Corporation, an Alaska-based Native village corporation, has launched Alaska Nuna Adventures, a tourism company that aims to increase the number of Indigenous-led experiences for visitors.

The company will act as a bridge -- connecting cruise lines, expedition companies, tour operators and independent travelers with the Alutiiq Tribe of Old Harbor, Kodiak Island tribes and area residents.

"We are investing in a future where cultural tourism is led by our people, rooted in our values and built to benefit our community for generations," said Kristina Woolston, Old Harbor Native's CEO. "We look forward to welcoming visitors to learn, explore and experience the richness of our Alutiiq/Sugpiaq culture, while creating employment and economic opportunities for our shareholders, descendants and broader community."

The company will begin operating this year. Tours, cultural demonstrations, small-business partnerships and workforce training programs will be guided by Indigenous principles and storytelling traditions, with the goal of prioritizing activities that allows tourism to enhance -- rather than intrude on -- the communities' way of life.

Additionally, Alaska Nuna Adventures will provide employment opportunities for tribal citizens, artists and local entrepreneurs, with an emphasis on respecting and preserving the ecological areas and cultural sites in Old Harbor and surrounding communities.
