SeaWorld Entertainment has pushed back the timetable on a pair of new roller coasters at its Florida parks.
In a recent call with financial analysts, SeaWorld officials said that both the Iron Gwazi at Busch Gardens in Tampa and the Ice Breaker at SeaWorld Orlando won't open until 2021. They had been scheduled to debut this year.
Reusing portions of the original Gwazi, a wooden coaster that closed at Busch Gardens in 2015, the 206-foot tall Iron Gwazi will feature a 91-degree drop and reach a top speed of 76 mph. Built by Rocky Mountain Construction Co., the 4,075-foot-long coaster will ride on purple rails while inverting riders three times and subjecting them to 12 hills that produce the temporary sensation of weightlessness.
(A gwazi, in case you were wondering, is a mythical creature with the head of a tiger and the body of a lion.)
SeaWorld says the Arctic-themed Ice Breaker will have the largest beyond-vertical drop in Florida, a fall from a 93-foot spike at a 100-degree angle.
