One of summer's great traditions is the outdoor cinema: picnic blankets, big screens, cool breezes and frosty drinks. The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas hosts poolside screenings on its marquee every Monday between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Topgolf just launched its Drive + Dive-In Movie Night, Downtown Container Park hosts family-friendly films every Thursday as does Town Square, which offers free Movies on the Green each week at sundown from June 22 until Aug. 10.
Last week, the Silverton Casino Hotel joined the summer screening scene with its own take on the outdoor movie experience. Dubbed Sunset Cinema, Silverton is offering free Friday night screenings on the resort's lawn with headphones — instead of amplification — putting a twist on the standard movie outing. Each guest gets their own set with individually controlled volume, allowing them to watch the films — "Grease" (June 16), "Sing" (June 23) and "Secret Life of Pets" and "A League of their Own" (June 30) — at their preferred decibel level. Each movie night will also feature coordinated activities, like a dance-off for "Grease" and free karaoke for "Sing."
The festivities begin at 6 p.m., and the opening credits roll each Friday at sundown. Guests can bring their own picnic baskets or purchase one on-site, and a bar will have drinks to purchase. The cost of an outdoor film at Silverton? Free. Not having your partner keep nudging you to ask, "What'd he say?" Priceless.
