Visit Florida estimates the number of out-of-state travelers to Florida fell to 86.7 million in 2020, a 34% decline from 2019. Overseas visitation plunged 70.4%, while domestic travel was off 29.7%. The number of visitors from Canada, the smallest segment tracked by Visit Florida, fell 64.5%, to 1.3 million.

The pandemic-driven declines follow several robust years in which Florida attracted 118.4 million visitors in 2017, followed by 127.1 million in 2018 and 131.4 million in 2019.

Visit Florida said the number of hotel room-nights sold in Florida during 2020 decreased 37.9% from 2019. Occupancy dropped by 33.6% to a rate of 47.9%, while ADR (average daily rate) saw a more moderate decline of 8.6% to $132.67.

It emphasized that because of the unprecedented nature of the pandemic, all figures are subject to larger than normal revisions.
