American Queen Voyages in 2023 will sail what it calls "the most comprehensive itinerary in the company's 10-year history" -- a 23-day trip on the American Countess from Minnesota to Pittsburgh.
After a one-night hotel stay, the Grand Ohio & Upper Mississippi Rivers cruise will depart Red Wing, Minnesota, on July 25 and arrive in Pittsburgh on Aug. 15. Then a reverse 23-day itinerary will depart from Pittsburgh for Red Wing.
The cruise to Pittsburgh will stop at a new destination every day along the banks of the Mississippi and Ohio rivers.
Covering 1,772 miles, the cruise visits Minneapolis; La Crosse, Wisconsin; Dubuque, Bettendorf and Burlington, Iowa; Hannibal, Cape Girardeau and St. Louis, Missouri; Chester, Illinois; Paducah, Henderson, Owensboro, Brandenburg, Louisville and Maysville, Kentucky; Madison, Indiana; Cincinnati and Marietta, Ohio; and Point Pleasant and Wheeling, West Virginia.
The sailing will "cover more miles, call on more port cities and offer the most unlimited guided tours of any itineraries in American Queen Voyages' 10-year history," said the river cruise line.
Among many activities, guests will be able to visit the baseball field where the 1989 movie "Field of Dreams" was filmed near Dubuque, visit the National Quilt Museum in Paducah, take a scenic jet boat ride in Madison, and explore the Anheuser Museum and Estate in Kimmswick (about 25 miles south of St. Louis).
