Alaska Airlines plans to begin a codeshare partnership
with Japan Airlines (JAL) on June 29.
Commencement of the codeshare is dependent upon government approval.
The partnership would allow for combined ticketing and
one-stop baggage check-in on flights between Alaska’s extensive U.S. network
and JAL’s network in Japan. JAL flies to Tokyo from Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Diego and Vancouver. JAL also flies between Los
Angeles and Osaka.
As part of the agreement, members of Alaska’s Mileage
Plan rewards program will be able to earn miles on JAL flights beginning early
this summer, Alaska said.
“For the first time, our members will be able to earn and
redeem miles within Japan, taking advantage of 600 daily flights on JAL’s broad
domestic network,” said Andrew Harrison, Alaska’s executive vice president and chief
commercial officer.
