An Alaska Airlines Boeing 737-900 is out of service Tuesday while the carrier investigates what caused an engine cover to detach upon landing Monday morning.
Pilots flying Alaska flight 558 from Seattle to San Diego on Aug. 22 aborted the journey shortly after takeoff after observing an unusual vibration on the left side of the plane.
A video later shows the cowling, which is the metal paneling that covers the engine, coming off as the airplane travels along the runway after landing.
No one was injured in the incident, Alaska said.
"The two pilots who operated the flight have more than 32 years of combined flying experience," Alaska said in a statement. "They, along with our flight attendants, handled the incident with tremendous professionalism and care. We also greatly appreciated the patience of our guests during this event."
