Allegiant Air will add Fort Myers, Fla., to its route map.

The move is a significant one for the discount carrier, which until now has concentrated all its Southwest Florida flying in the smaller Punta Gorda Airport.

From Fort Myers, Allegiant will fly to Allentown, Pa., beginning Nov. 13., and to Des Moines, Iowa, and Appleton, Wis., beginning Nov. 21.

Allegiant will be the only airline flying Fort Myers-Allentown and Fort Myers-Des Moine.

Minneapolis-based discount carrier Sun Country is slated to fly Fort Myers-Appleton seasonally from late January until early April, Cirium flight schedule data shows.

Southwest Florida Airport will be Allegiant's 12th Florida airport.
