Allegiant Air has begun selling bundled fares. Customers will
now be presented with three product choices.
Allegiant Basic is the carrier's traditional bare fare that
doesn’t include carry-on bags, checked bags and seat assignment. Customers who
choose Allegiant Basic can still purchase those products separately.
Allegiant Bonus bundles airfare with seat selection and
either a checked or carry-on bag, depending on the route. Free itinerary
changes, called Trip Flex, are sometimes part of the Bonus bundle, depending on
the route.
Allegiant Total bundles airfare with seat selection, a
carry-on and checked bag, priority boarding and Trip Flex.
Costs vary by the route. For example, a search on Thursday
for a Dec. 19 one-way flight from Cincinnati to Las Vegas revealed a Basic fare
of $112. The Bonus fare, which in this case included Trip Flex and a carry-on,
cost an extra $60.50, a savings of 23% compared to purchasing the bundled
products individually. The Allegiant Total package cost $82.99 plus the airfare,
a savings of 38%.
Allegiant began soft-testing the bundled fares in
mid-October and has now rolled them out to all flights. They are similar to
bundles offered by Frontier and Spirit.
