American Airlines plans to begin rolling out Verifly this month, saying the new mobile app "will help travelers easily understand Covid-19 testing and documentation requirements" needed for travel to international destinations.

The app, developed in partnership with identity assurance software company Daon, also promises to streamline the airport check-in process, providing a digital verification feature that ensures customers have completed all requirements.

American Airlines will begin a trial run of the platform on Nov. 18. Customers flying to Montego Bay and Kingston, Jamaica, from or connecting through Miami will be among the first to test the app and will be able to create a Verifly profile and use the platform at no cost.

Once a Verifly user creates a secure profile, he or she is prompted to confirm trip details by providing flight information, a negative Covid-19 test that fulfills their destination's requirements and any other documentation needed for travel. The app verifies whether or not all requirements are met, providing a "pass" or "fail" message to the user.

Upon arrival in Miami on the day of travel, Verifly's trial users will be provided an expedited entry lane for testing verification in Miami Airport's North Terminal, where they will need to show their approved "pass" validation on the app.

Additionally, the app will provide reminders when a user's travel window is coming to a close or if his or her credentials have expired.

According to American Airlines president Robert Isom, Verifly will help the airline "deliver a more seamless travel experience as we support demand return and put customers' minds at ease that they are fully prepared for their trip."

Like American Airlines, Denver Airport has also been experimenting with Verifly, offering its own version of the app to travelers since late October.
