The DOT has given American Airlines and JetBlue authorization to add flights between South Florida and Havana.

The decision allows American to increase its Miami-Havana service from six to eight daily on Sundays through Fridays and from six to seven daily on Saturdays.

JetBlue can now operate two Fort Lauderdale-Havana flights on Saturdays, up from one. The carrier already flies Fort Lauderdale-Havana thrice daily on Sundays through Fridays.

American is required to begin additional Havana flights within 90 days. JetBlue will have 90 days from Dec. 17 to begin its additional Saturday flight.
