Travelers taking a trip over the long July 4 weekend will enjoy some cost relief compared with last year, according to a Hopper analysis

Roundtrip budget domestic airfares are averaging $301 for June 29 through July 5, down 27% (about $110) from last year. Domestic prices are now in line with 2019 airfares, wrote Hopper economist Hayley Berg.

Hopper defines budget fares as ones that are lower than 90% of the fare quotes it tracks.

Travelers will also find relief on rental car prices this July 4, with prices averaging $47 per day, down 25% from last year.

Hotel rates are averaging $197 per night, which is flat year over year.

The news isn't as good on foreign travel, Hopper said. Prices on trips to Europe remain especially high, with the average budget roundtrip fare of $1,371 up 33% (about $340) from last year.
