The FAA has suspended flights over Persian Gulf and Gulf of
Oman waters near Iran.
The suspension came Thursday, a day after Iran shot down a
U.S. military drone amid escalating tensions between the two countries.
The move, the FAA said, was made "due to heightened military
activities and increased political tensions in the region, which represent an
inadvertent risk to U.S. civil aviation operations."
On Thursday, United suspended its service between Newark and
Mumbai. The carrier said it suspended the route due to safety concerns, according to media reports.
Foreign carriers that traverse the region have also said
they are rerouting flights away from the Strait of Hormuz, according to reports.
