Japan Airlines (JAL) will begin daily service from New York Kennedy to Tokyo Haneda on April 1, the carrier announced Thursday.
“The new service is being offered to enhance customer convenience and to provide greater access to and from Japan-domestic connecting flights,” JAL said.
The flights, to be operated on Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, according to the website Routes, will compete against JAL’s domestic rival, All Nippon Airways (ANA).
As JAL adds the new service from JFK to Haneda, it will discontinue one of its two daily flights from JFK to Tokyo Narita, which is located farther from the city center than capacity-limited Haneda.
JAL will also reshuffle its service between Tokyo and Honolulu beginning in April by cancelling daily Honolulu-Haneda service and adding an extra daily flight between Honolulu and Narita.
